Aaliyah Dana Haughton was an American singer and actress who was born on January 16, 1979. She has been recognized for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop, and hip hop, garnering her the moniker “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop”.

She rose to prominence at the age of ten after appearing on the television show Star Search and performing in concert with Gladys Knight. She was born in Brooklyn but reared in Detroit.

Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson’s Blackground Records when she was 12 years old. R. Kelly, whom Hankerson introduced her to, became her mentor as well as the principal songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number.

The album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America after selling three million copies in the United States (RIAA). Following suspicions of an illicit marriage with Kelly, Aaliyah left Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.

Aaliyah children: Does Aaliyah have children?

No, Aaliyah did not have any children to discuss. R Kelly is believed to have gotten Aaliyah pregnant, and in order to avoid being accused of statutory rape, he bribed an Illinois state official to fake legal documents for Aaliyah and had her age changed from 15 to 18, so he could marry her until she had an abortion.

When her parents discovered that R Kelly had illegally married Aaliyah, they had the marriage annulled.

Aaliyah and R Kelly refuse to discuss their marriage, and any personal and economic ties they had together were severed completely. The marriage record was sealed by Aaliyah and her family.
