Jack Del Rio is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Washington Football Team of the National Football League (NFL).
Jack Louis Del Rio Jr. was born on April 4, 1963, in Castro Valley, California, the United States to a father of Spanish descent and an Italian-American mother. He attended Hayward High School in Hayward, California.
Jack Del Rio was selected out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 22nd round (550th overall) of the 1981 MLB Draft but chose to accept a scholarship from the University of Southern California.
Jack Del Rio was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. He also earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Kansas in 1990 and had played for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jack Del Rio was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round (68th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft. He was also selected by the Los Angeles Express in the 1985 USFL Territorial Draft.
Jack Del Rio played for four other NFL teams before retiring in 1996. He has a son named Luke who was a college football quarterback for the Florida Gators in the mid-2010s and is an offensive quality control coach for the Washington Football Team.
